External agencies and partnerships

As a school, we have built good working relationships with a wide range of people who provide services to children with SEND and their families. This is particularly important when a child is demonstrating further cause for concern or their learning need is more complex and persistent. The external specialists we work with may:

  • Act in an advisory capacity

  • Extend expertise of school staff

  • Provide additional assessment

  • Support a child directly

  • Suggest that statutory assessment is advisable

  • Consult with all parties involved with the child, including parents and carers and the child themselves

As a school, we work with a number of outside agencies to provide the highest level of support for pupils with SEND. These agencies include:

We work with a number of other agencies to meet individual needs fully:

  • Medical Practitioners

  • Educational Social Workers

  • The Education Welfare Service

  • Health Agencies and medical professionals

  • We employ a counsellor to support children as needed

In addition, we have a School Parent Support Advisor, Judith Young, who is based at Langley Park Primary School and can provide support to families as needed. Judith is also qualified as a Youth Mental Health First Aider which enables her to respond to emotional incidents.

At each step in the process, parents and carers are involved. All of the professionals we work with meet with parents and carers to gain their views and feedback their findings. They offer support and advice to ensure that the support we provide in school is also provided at home.

Additional support for Parents and Carers is available from Durham SENDIASS and Durham Core Assets
